mycotic diseases

Fungal infections are very commun, especially  mold (Aspergillus sp) and yeast  (Candida). Every parrot is sensible to these pathogens, however small parakeets seem more resistant. Pionus parrots are umong the most sensibles, followed by african greys, amazons, macaws and cockatoos

.

1. Aspergillus sp

.

This type of fungus is mostly found in the respiratory tract. Typical signs are yellow changes in the organs. The diagnosis is done by demonstrating the presence of the fungus. During the last years we worked out a standard treatment which includes also the motivation of the owner. It is very important to detect the disease in an early state. Every bird should come  at least one time per year for a routine  check-up. In case the bird has already respiratory signs, the prognosis is poor.
